Ministry of Education ICT Standards Training Course
A critical step in the journey to status as a Ministry of Education approved ICT contractor is to attend the Ministry of Education - ICT Standards Training Course and pass the requisite exam.
Once achieved it is a requirement to maintain this certification by attending a bi-yearly one day training course followed by an online examination.
This course is primarily based on specific Ministry of Education mandatory standards pertaining to the installation of generic cabling system infrastructure within schools.
The course does also cover some applicable New Zealand standards, with a focus on how these apply to installation in New Zealand schools.
Typical standards discussed are AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3084, NZS 3604, AS/NZS 11801.
The course is delivered as nine distinct modules, each covering a specific area pertaining to generic cabling system installation in New Zealand schools.
Topics covered include Electrical Installation (where pertaining to telecommunications installation), timber framed cable pathways and building penetrations, cabling systems (backbone & horizontal), testing requirements, communications cabinet installation, asbestos and network switching.
